Areas to Support
The National Oceanography Centre, Southampton (NOCS) appreciates the generosity of our donors. There are a variety of ways to support the Centre:
Students who study at NOCS are exposed to a research environment unparalleled anywhere else in the world. Students study along-side world-class scientists in a research-led environment in which problems are addressed from the shoreline to the abyss.
Your support will provide critical resources for students to conduct research and field-work, will allow us to reward meritorious individuals and enable us to attract bright minds through scholarships.

Talented and highly qualified academics are the foundation of a great university and research centre. At NOCS, our scientists are among the best in the world and many are leaders in their fields. The recruitment market for noteworthy scientists is increasingly competitive and government support alone fails to provide the necessary resource to retain the calibre of staff who will inspire our future leaders and workforce.
Your support will enable us to endow positions to help attract and retain internationally renowned scientists and will enable us to provide post-doctoral support to create the entrepreneurial environment necessary for our young scientists to develop.
NOCS leads the world in key areas such as ocean observations, ancient and rapid climate change, natural hazards and biodiversity research.
Private support is necessary to help us seed innovative ideas, to explore new frontiers and extend the boundaries of science, to develop new technologies and to match and leverage funding from government sources for our strategic priorities.

Translating science so that it is understandable, relevant and offers tangible benefits is a key priority for NOCS. We take our commitment to public outreach and education very seriously. Through the innovative “Discover Oceanography” to our public lectures and annual “Ocean and Earth” Day we offer a variety of service-oriented programs to educate the public and to help our leaders make informed decisions about our environment.
