NOCS collaborates worldwide to advance and communicate understanding of how the earth and its oceans function as dynamic global systems. The outputs of our work feed into international policy and we transfer knowledge, skills and successful technologies around the globe. NOCS draws together the strengths and expertise of the UK marine science community and is working to raise the international visibility of the UK marine science base.
The Centre plays an active role in the Partnership for Observation of the Global Oceans (POGO), and represents the UK marine science community at the European Science Foundation's Marine Board and the International Oceanographic Commission (IOC).
We host the international project office for CLIVAR, the global study of natural climate variability and human induced climate change, and our researchers participate in a wide range of European and international programmes, projects and initiatives.
NOCS has established formal collaborative agreements with other major oceanography research institutes worldwide, which facilitate the exchange of students and researchers, the sharing of facilities and collaborative research at international level.
